Longest baseball game ever played nearly erased, Ubaldo Jimenez throws first no-hitter in Colorado Rockies history

It was a wild and wacky Saturday of baseball. The longest baseball game ever played was nearly erased from the record books, and Ubaldo Jimenez fired the first no-hitter in Colorado Rockies history.

The Mets and Cardinals locked horns in a battle that went 20 innings, the first 18 of which were remarkably scoreless. The game challenged the Major League record for longest game ever, a 26-inning affair between the Brooklyn Robins and Boston Braves in 1920 (according to www.newsdial.com), but was still 13 innings short of the longest professional baseball game, a 33-inning battle that featured the Pawtucket Red Sox in the 1980s.

Meanwhile, Jimenez carved out a spot in Major League and Rockies history, blanking the Atlanta Braves, 4-0. He was far from perfect - he handed out six walks, all of them before the sixth inning - but he whiffed seven Braves and fired a fastball that topped out at 100 miles per hour on the radar gun.

Jimenez has emerged over the last few seasons as a solid hurler for the Rockies, though he's been plagued a bit by inconsistency. But Saturday he was on target, firing the first no-hitter of the Major League season and the first since Mark Buehrle's perfect game last July, according to ESPN.com.

Add to the wild day of baseball the fact that the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays had to finish a suspended game from Friday night before beginning their regularly scheduled battle Saturday, and it was a truly bizarre day on the diamond.

Tiger Woods Apology Video Speech Shocks Viewers

(Media-Newswire.com) - The Tiger Woods apology speech video from today's press conference in Florida shows a teary-eyed Woods admitting to cheating on his wife Elin Nordegren and commenting on the rumored fight on Thanksgiving night.  The video of Tiger Woods shows the golfer standing in front a room of family and friends.

Woods' speech in front of the audience of about 40 people and spoke for almost 15 minutes.  He read from a prepared statement but took no questions from the media or audience members.

The golfer had not been seen or heard form publicly since before the now infamous Thanksgiving night accident.  The new Tiger Woods video was the first public appearance of the golfer since the allegations of infidelity came across to the public.

Woods was firm in this media event that there was no issue of domestic violence in his marriage.

Coaches Weigh in on Meyer

The stunning resignation of Florida Coach Urban Meyer on Saturday especially rocked the close-knit college football coaching fraternity.

“Who would have ever thought waking up this morning that Urban Meyer would step down?” Mississippi Coach Houston Nutt said in a telephone interview. “It’s a shame. It really is.”

Louisiana State Coach Les Miles was just as astonished by Meyer’s resignation. In Orlando preparing his team to play in the Capitol One Bowl, he learned of the decision through a text message from one of his assistant coaches.

“It’s a shocker,” Miles said in a telephone interview. “I wish him well. He’s a family man. I think we all want for him to have good health and a long life so whatever that takes, if that means a break or stepping aside or whatever he needs to do, we’re for him.”

Nutt was still in disbelief Saturday night about Meyer’s resignation as his team returned from a practice in preparation for the Cotton Bowl.

“Urban’s done so much for the SEC, with winning the national championship twice,” Nutt said. “Also, it’s the way he’s handled players and just the job he’s done, you hate to see a guy like that go. You hope that with his health and everything that he can get all that back. The main thing is getting healthy. It’s sad.”

Texas Christian Coach Gary Patterson also lamented Meyer’s resignation.

“There’s nobody more committed to the game of college football, to his players and to his family than what Urban Meyer is,” Patterson said in a telephone interview. “For him to make this kind of decision obviously was a very hard, tough choice. He loves the game, but I know he loves his family.”

Yet Patterson also praised Meyer for choosing his health and his family over football.

“You’ve got to give the guy a lot of credit, I think, for making this kind of decision because for us as football coaches, it’s always been about the game,” Patterson said. “For him to make a decision to decide at this point in time to hang it up and do it for his health and his family, I think shows the strength of him as a man.

“He’s 45 years old and wants to get a chance to see his family grow up and do things. Some of us haven’t made those decisions in our lives. He’s as strong as he is because he put family and health in front of something that he truly loves to do.”

Meyer’s resignation also highlights the often overlooked health of coaches. Patterson joked that he spends more time raising other people’s children than his own.

“These coaches are people, too,” Miles said. “Health is a very serious issue. You invest in these young men that you coach and you spend long hours. You come in early and stay up late. You recruit players, you help them and you guide them. If they need to talk, you’re available. Health is an issue. You have to take time for yourself and if you don’t, it can get you.”

And while the coaching community feels for Meyer, it is hardly as sympathetic about Florida looking for a new coach.

“Florida will still be Florida,” Miles said. “Whoever takes that challenge will have some tall shoes to fill. They’ve recruited extremely well under Urban. I can’t imagine that they won’t be a team vying for a championship.”

Stores Open on Christmas Day 2009

Hello Everyone!!!

Merry Christmas to you all there!!

Well!! Well!!!

Trendz Wizard can see into his magic mirror.....

That many shoppers are STILL in a frenzy for gifts, and with Christmas day already here are wondering what stores are open today. Unfortunately for the shopper (but fortunate for the employees), most retail stores are closed. However, there are a few stores that will almost certainly be open - depending on your area.

Convenience Stores - Some CVS/Walgreens are open on Christmas for limited hours, check your local store’s website for details. Here you can buy batteries, cards, candy, and small electronics.
Grocery Stores - These also vary by location. Here you will find batteries, foods, candy, perhaps a small selection of electronics, flowers, baked goods, etc.. (you’ve been there before, you know the selection.)

Gas Stations - I sincerely hope you do not plan on buying a gift at a gas station, BUT, with the pain at the pump Americans are experiencing, some gas stations will sell gift cards. Easy way out but it will certainly make a gift that will be used.
Good luck! Happy holiday!

Upper Deck says we are with you TIGER

Hello Friends ,

Greetings from Trendz Wizard...........

Trendz Wizard can see in to his magic mirror the Tiger in a cage........

 Here the Wizard goes......
Trading card and memorabilia company Upper Deck said on Tuesday that it would not end its sponsorship deals with Tiger Woods, who has admitted to extramarital affair and has had other sponsors back away from him as a result.

The company said it stood by the world's No. 1 golfer, Tiger Woods who said on Friday that he was taking an "indefinite break" from pro golf.

"Upper Deck will maintain its exclusive agreement with Tiger in both our sports cards and memorabilia categories, and we look forward to his eventual return to the PGA Tour," Upper Deck Chief Executive Richard McWilliam said in a statement. "Tiger and his family have our full support."

Woods has served as an exclusive spokesman and autograph signer for Upper Deck since 2001.
Woods, 33, last week admitted to "infidelity" in his marriage to his Swedish wife Elin Nordegren as allegations of multiple extramarital affairs rocked his life and career.

Upper Deck is not the only company to stand by Woods as Nike Inc and Berkshire Hathaway's NetJets unit also recently have said they would not end their deals.

The star golfer was estimated to earn about $100 million a year in endorsement deals before his unwelcome troubles.

However, Woods' popularity has plummeted in the short space of two weeks as a parade of up to 13 women -- from cocktail waitresses to porn stars -- came forward to say they had had flings with the married father of two. The allegations emerged after Woods was involved in a minor Nov. 27 car accident at his Florida home.
In the latest USA Today/Gallup poll, Woods' "favorable" rating dropped to 33 percent from 85 percent the last time the survey was conducted in June 2005. His "unfavorable" rating surged to 57 percent from 8 percent.

Meanwhile, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll found more than four in 10 Americans hold an unfavorable view of Woods and more than a third -- whether golf fans or not believe companies should not continue to use Woods to endorse their products and services.

Findings like those are making companies nervous.
Most importantly, on Sunday, Accenture Plc said it was ending its six-year sponsorship deal with the golfer  the world's first billionaire athlete who is believed to be the wealthiest sports personality on the planet.
Accenture's move away from Woods came a day after Procter & Gamble's Gillette said it would limit the use of Woods in its marketing. AT&T Inc has said it is evaluating its relationship with him.

Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer, a unit of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, said this week that it would assess its options over the coming weeks.

Eventually it seems that Tiger Woods in going on a very tough an unpredictable ride
